JANASHA "JAY" BRADFORD
Get to know her
Janasha Bradford, known as Jay, is a Financial Advisor and the author, founder, and CEO of Mahogany and Friends; committed to filling the void in financial literacy amongst children, especially in black and brown communities.

Born in Newark, NJ, and later raised in Charlottesville, she enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephews, as she prides herself on being the best auntie (Auntie Mommy is the term she goes by!) Jay is a huge foodie who likes trying out new restaurants- she enjoys traveling with her partner and loves anything DIY, creative, fashionable, or home design.
Jay has been in the financial industry for over half a decade and is a firm believer that your experiences shape who you are.
“I’m thankful for my struggle because, without it, I wouldn’t have stumbled upon my passion.”
At the age of seven, Jay's father passed away, the patriarch of the family, leaving her mother with three children and a large amount of money. Over the years, she witnessed her mother, a new widow, lose it all due to her lack of financial education and poor financial advice –sometimes you don't know what you don't know. This ultimately led to the loss of their family home, financial hardships, and her pulling out of college, only to later pay for it herself. That experience put financial literacy at the forefront of Jay's mind and showed her the value of the entire family being financially educated. She set out to learn all she could and become a reliable resource for family and friends alike.
Jay saw the upside to her early life trauma and the unmet need for fun, full-spectrum financial resources for children. She created Mahogany and Friends to amplify diverse voices, spark fun financial conversations amongst families, and empower and inspire families to build their wealth through the financial market.
